Session 15- A few of my favorite things...for turning!

February 2nd Show Notes

  • Dave Nowicki- it’s his Powermatic lathe, of course!

  • Bob Collins has an old reliable: a Craftsman spindle gouge he like for turning small beads, but he also likes Thompson Tools, especially the 3/8 detail gouge and 1/2 bowl gouge. He also likes his Sorby 1 1/2 inch scraper.

  • Frank Huttenlock likes his 3/8 gouge with an Ellsworth grind and his Eric Lofstrom skew. He also has Colwin Way’s tools.

  • Joe Seltzer like his small turning tools for his small turnings. Mark Gardner used to sell some, Sorby does too, but they don’t have replaceable tips. Cindy Drozda’s Cygnet Mini Hollower.

  • Brian Maguire uses a Easy Wood Tools’ carbide tool for roughing. He also has some of Mark St. Leger’s tools and handles for hollowing.

  • Bob Crowe revealed his favorite tool, but you have to watch the video!

  • Andy Postlewaite tipped us off to an economical carbide replacement from Global Supplies. He also likes the Thompson detail gouge.

  • Bruce Quigley gets the most use out of his bowl gouges- he’s bought them from various manufacturers.

  • Al McCarty likes his bench grinder and is busy truing it up for his Pro sharpening jig.
