As reported in Bucks Local News: Bucks County Community College's Pavilion will be unveiling Building Blocks, a sculpture by Visual Arts Professor Mark Sfirri. The wood-turned, 12-foot-tall structure reflects Sfirri’s interpretation of the college’s heritage.
“The ‘melon’ shapes that are stacked up on one another can be viewed as building blocks of knowledge, and that is the key function that we have at Bucks, to impart knowledge,” explains Sfirri, who has been teaching at Bucks since 1980. “This is something that begins before a student comes to Bucks, continues at Bucks, and hopefully continues for a lifetime. The bottom of the column has a single sphere that is the ‘being.’ It is supported by a structure which represents family and environment.”
Mark's work was selected during a commissioned artwork contest that was open to any creative discipline. The objective was to create art that recognizes the college and its pivotal role in the community. The contest drew dozens of submissions from artists throughout the county.
